The Bhutan Highlights tour is an exploration of the culture, landscape and spiritual aspects of this mountain country. The other name given to Bhutan is the Land of the Thunder Dragon and offers travellers a traditional mix of nature, old monasteries, great dzongs, and amiable people.
The scenic Kathmandu-Paro flight is your starting point, where you can view some of the most spectacular Himalayan mountains. Take a tour of Kyichu Lhakhang, Paro Dzong, Rinpung Dzong, and the National Museum in Paro. The climb to the popular Tiger Nest Monastery (taktshang) on the cliff with the view of the valleys is the best part.
A visit to the capital city of Thimphu shows that both tradition and modernity co-exist. See: Tashichho Dzong, Memorial Chorten, Simtokha Dzong, and the local colourful markets. On the way, see the beautiful scenery of the Himalayas at the Dochula Pass. This bhutan Tour also covers Punakha Dzong and Wangdue Phodrang market, which gives a reality check of how Bhutanese people live. The Bhutan 5-Day Tour is a great blend of cultural, spiritual and scenic tours.
The 5-day Bhutan itinerary starts by arriving at Paro, one of the world’s most scenic airports, surrounded by magnificent Himalayan peaks. On arrival, meet the guide and start the journey to Thimphu. On the way, stop at Tamcho Lhakhang and Chuzom, the confluence of two rivers where three different stupas can be found.
After a lunch in Thimphu, see highlights such as the massive Buddha Dordenma, Simtokha Dzong (Bhutan’s oldest dzong), and a nunnery offering a glimpse of spiritual life. Overnight in Thimphu.
On the second day, breakfast in the hotel and drive to Punakha over the Dochula Pass (3,100 m), which provides spectacular views of the eastern Himalayas and is decorated with 108 stupas. Head down to the verdant Punakha Valley to visit Punakha Dzong, a gem of Bhutanese architecture, at the confluence of two rivers.
Follow with a short scenic walk across the longest suspension bridge in Bhutan and visit a charming local village. Worship at Chimi Lhakhang, the temple of the Divine Madman, a saint who taught in an unconventional way. Observe the serene landscapes of the valley before returning to Punakha for the night.
On the third day, this morning, take a scenic drive to the off-the-beaten-path destination of Haa Valley, one of Bhutan’s least-traced regions, which still holds its true beauty. Upon arrival, visit Lhakhang Karpo (White Temple) and Lhakhang Nagpo (Black Temple), both steeped in Bhutanese mythology and spiritual tradition.
Experience Haa town, where traditional houses and a relaxed lifestyle embody Bhutan’s timeless culture. Surrounded by clean forests and mountain scenery, the valley is a peaceful retreat and the place for short nature walks. Settle into your accommodation and enjoy an overnight getaway in Haa, a tranquil off-the-beaten-path destination.
On the fourth day, Travel to Paro and get ready to visit the best part of your journey, a hike to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger Nest). It is a sacred site with breathtaking scenery and a spiritual place on a cliff.
Then have lunch and continue the sightseeing, visiting Paro Rinpung Dzong, a superb fortress that overlooks the valley, and the National Museum (Ta Dzong), a great gallery of cultural treasures of Bhutan. In the evenings, take a leisurely stroll through the town of Paro, home to numerous handicraft shops, and immerse yourself in the culture of Bhutan.
On the final day, Say goodbye to the magical Kingdom of Bhutan after breakfast. Your guide will ensure that you go to Paro International Airport to continue with your flights.
Once you fly over the Himalayas, you will carry with you the ineffaceable recollections of the colourful culture of Bhutan, its pristine valleys, grand fortresses and its warm hospitality.
This enriching but brief introduction to Bhutan will last a lifetime, inspiring you to return and unearth its concealed treasures. When your departure arrives, for it always does, the spiritual essence and tranquil beauty of Bhutan will stay with you forever.
